The Subaru Forester lineup for 2022 will include a model name that's new to Forester fans: The 2022 Forester Wilderness. As the name "Wilderness" implies, this will be a Forester trim that's built for some of the most rugged off-road expeditions known to Georgians. Fortunately, many of the extra-tough off-road features on the new Forester model at Subaru of Kennesaw have already been successful on the 2021 Subaru Outback Wilderness.
Some of what we know so far about the new Forester Wilderness
The new Wilderness model that's part of the Subaru Forester team is coming soon and most of the details haven't been announced. But that won't keep us from telling you what we've heard. A good example is the new collection of off-road enhancements that worked so well on the 2021 Subaru Outback. That includes special tires and wheels big enough for adventure near Marietta, GA. Even the software is being modified for off-roading.
More ways the Forester Wilderness takes its cues from the Outback Wilderness
Let's face it: You've been waiting for the day you could go charging through rivers and streams in a Subaru Forester. That day is about to arrive. Much like the Subaru Outback Wilderness, the Forester version is expected to have more ground clearance, which, of course, means you'll have more water clearance. To raise the stakes even higher, the Forester Wilderness should have a factory lift, to help you get past uneven ground beneath you.
It's also expected that the new Subaru Wilderness will run with Subaru's four-cylinder Boxer engine, just like the Outback model. Why is that good news? The Subaru boxer engine uses lightweight components that improve the power-to-weight ratio, thereby ramping up driving performance while giving you better handling and stability. It's packed with an over-achieving 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft of torque. Power to the off-roading people.
The Wilderness will take you to new heights in the wilderness
We're betting that, just like the Outback version, the new 2021 Subaru Forester Wilderness will have a ride-height that's taller, along with bigger all-terrain tires. Wheel well areas will be covered with more rugged cladding, to guard the new Forester from corrosion. Upfront will be LED fog lights to help pierce the darkness when you get carried away and find yourself still off-roading late at night. But you wouldn't do that, would you?
Looking the part: Wardrobe highlights for the Forester Wilderness
The new 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness will be getting much of its good looks from its more experienced cousin, the Outback Wilderness. Watch the Forester's nice chrome accents turn satin black. The Outback model is sharing practical elements like roof tie-downs and tow-hook anchors with the Forester part of the family. Assuming both models have about the same towing capability, the new Forester Wilderness will be pulling up to 3,500 lb.
