Figuring out which Subaru car is right for you can be difficult with such terrific options available. We're happy to help point out some of the key similarities and differences between the Subaru Impreza and Subaru Legacy at Subaru of Kennesaw so that you can decide for yourself what fits best.

Which Is Bigger, the Impreza or the Legacy?

The Impreza is a compact car at 182.7 inches of length while the Legacy is a family sedan with a length of 190.6 inches. This increased size translates directly to leg and shoulder room. You'll have up to 43.1 inches of legroom in the front of an Impreza, and 36.5 inches in the rear. The Legacy gains 3 inches of legroom in the rear, and shoulder room also increases by 1.4 and 1.8 inches for the front and back respectively. This all increases the passenger volume you can expect from the Impreza's maximum 100.9 cubic feet to 105.5 cubic feet in the Legacy.

If you want to maximize cargo space, however, you may consider purchasing an Impreza over the Legacy. While the Legacy comes as a sedan, the Impreza is offered as either a sedan or a hatchback. The Legacy may come with 15.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk, but the Impreza hatchback has 20.8 cubic feet to start, and you can increase that to 55.3 cubic feet by folding down the rear seatbacks.

Which Model Is More Powerful?

The Subaru Legacy has over 100 more horsepower and pound-feet of torque available through its more powerful drivetrain. The Impreza comes with a simple 2.0-liter engine on every trim, producing 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. The Legacy, however, has two engine options. The standard 2.5-liter engine produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque.

If you want the most power that you can get around Marietta, you'll want to pick up the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine on the Limited XT trim. This generates up to 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, allowing you to get up to speed quickly and easily.

What Technology Can I Expect from a Subaru Impreza or Legacy?

Both cars come with similar technology throughout, but the Legacy usually has a few enhancements. Both have a STARLINK® Multimedia system standard, with Multimedia Plus and Navigation versions available on higher trims. However, the Impreza comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, which can upgrade to an 8.0-inch version. The Subaru Legacy starts with dual 7.0-inch touchscreens and upgrades to an 11.6-inch screen on all but the base trim.

You'll also have a slightly better sound system available on the Legacy. While both cars have a Harman Kardon® premium audio system available, the Impreza's has a 432-watt-equivalent amplifier and eight speakers, while the Legacy uses a 576-watt-equivalent amplifier with 12 speakers. You can also pick up two-position driver's seat memory on the top trims of the Legacy.

Will One Car Be More Comfortable Than the Other?

You'll find both models to be plenty comfortable, with leather-trimmed upholstery available for both, and even the Impreza is spacious enough for most Kennesaw drivers. However, the Legacy does add some premium comfort features on higher trims. In addition to the heated front seats available on both, the Legacy also has heated rear outboard seats, ventilated front seats and Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery available.

Which Model Offers Better Safety Features?

You won't be disappointed with either model if you want the best in driver-assistance features thanks to Subaru EyeSight®. However, if you want to use the Impreza's available manual transmission, you won't be able to benefit from EyeSight®. These driver-assist features include pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane departure and sway warning and lane keep assist. This suite won the Impreza a Top Safety Pick award and the Legacy a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
